Obituary

The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1 Alice Flowers daughter of the late Roberta Richardson and Elijah Marshall peacefully passed away at Hospice of Golden Isles, January 22, 2020. She was born in Baldwin County Alabama on October 5, 1938, but her childhood was largely spent in Mandeville, La. We, Ricky, Gerald, Donna, Glenda, and Laurie are blessed to have had such a loving and wonderful mother! She was well known for her sassy attitude, stylish dress, and a love for people. If you ever wanted to have a good time all you needed to do was hangout with Alice. Her distinctive laugh and desire to make everyone feel wanted and appreciated often made her the life of the party. She knew how to have a good time! Alice accepted Christ at a young age and for many of her adults years she served faithfully as a choir member, usher and in the hospitality ministry while attending Shiloh Baptist Church, Brunswick Ga. under the leadership of Pastor E. C. Tillman. She also taught Sunday school while attending United Pentecostal Church of Brunswick Ga. under the leadership of H. E. Pastor Wheatly and later became a committed member of Zion Rock Missionary Baptist Church where served on the Missionary Board under the leadership of Pastor James C. Edwards. Her experiences from these dynamic ministries helped her grow in faith and draw closer to Christ! She really loved the Lord! Alice worked almost 50 years for the Alston family of Sea Island Ga. During her time with the Alton family she became more than a house-keeper, in the end she was family! The love they shared together will be something that we as a family will always remember. To the late Phillip and Elkin Alston; to their son Jimmy and his wife Gayle Alston and the entire Alston and Cushman family we appreciate everything you did to help our Mother live her best life! Our Mother could do a lot of things, but above all the lady could cook! Those who knew the true level of her culinary skills would agree she was more than a good cook, she was a gourmet chef! Alice loved cooking for her family, friends and especially for her son Gerald! She cooked for every special occasion until her health began to fail. We will truly miss those wonderful times spent with her in "the kitchen." Another love of our mother was enjoying the casino life; she spent a lot of time, "sailing" on the Emerald Princes where she had a good time with her friends. She also loved hanging with her girls group, affectionately known as, "The GAW's." They shared a special bond and an important place in her life. There is no doubt; she enjoyed being a VIP member! Alice was preceded in death by her Brother Washington Marshall, but is survived by her Sister Delores Edgerson, Brother Oscar Marshall, of Mandeville La. and brothers and sisters from Rochelle Ga. She also leaves her oldest son Ricky Marshall (Sharron) of Jacksonville Fl., along with her former husband John W. Flowers Sr. and their children, Gerald Flowers (Linda) of Kathleen Ga., three Daughters, Donna Flowers Autobrah, of Lawrenceville Ga., Glenda Delores Baker (Holly), of Junction City Ks., Laurie Flowers Dunham, of Brunswick Ga. Alice leaves a tremendous legacy in her Grand and Great Grand Children, along with a host of Nieces and Nephews. We graciously acknowledge our very special cousin Gretchen Seymour (Louis), of Mandeville La. and our neighbor and childhood friend Vernita Hall; both have been like daughters to our Mother. Last but not least, we give a very special thank you to Ms. Bernice Singleton one of Mother's oldest friends and to her closes friend and "running buddy," Ms. Jewel Clark of Brunswick Ga. We Love You Both!
