Audrey M. Evans, 87, of Brunswick passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 15, 2012 in the chapel of Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Reverend Darrell Joiner officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until the funeral hour at the funeral home on Highway 17 North.
Audrey was born in Jeff Davis County to the late John Matthew Strickland and Mattie Crosby Strickland. She left home in the country and married Sgt. Jessie C. Tullos, living in several locations before moving to Brunswick where she remarried and lived for 65 years.
A dependable worker she retired with the closing of Brunswick Manufacturing Company but continued working for several years at the Glynn County School System and Rich-Sea Pack Corporation. A Baptist, Audrey attended churches locally.
As a very dedicated mother, Audrey raised five boys into men making sure they were off to school fed and wearing clean, starched clothes. For many years she followed and supported the sports efforts of her boys through the Brunswick Recreation Department and the Glynn County School System traveling throughout South Georgia.
Audrey was "Supreme" at the art of Southern Cooking as many can attest and also enjoyed gardening.
Surviving Audrey are her sons Jesse C. Tullos (Cathy) of Pawleys Island, SC, John R. Tullos of St. Simons, Fred E. Tullos (Allison) of Brunswick, Terry M. Evans (Darlene) of Youngstown, FL and Grady S. Evans (Cheryl) of Palm Bay, FL, brothers Roger Strickland (Jennie) of Bainbridge, GA, Sidney Strickland of Hazelhurst, GA, sisters Patsy Brantley (L.W.) of Hazelhurst, GA and Johnnie Jo Zarzeka (Steve) of Atlanta, GA. Also surviving among many nephews and nieces are three special nieces Delaine Horton, Melony Miller and Lea Partin, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Henry G. Evans, daughter Barbara "Babs" Elaine Tullos, brother J.M. Strickland, Jr., sisters Velma Yawn, Estelle Davis, Gussie Kelley and Lois Long.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525 or the charity of one's choice.
