H. Benny Tatum, 77, passed away on July 19 after a battle with cancer. He was born in Savannah, GA, August 19, 1939 to parents Harley and Bobi L. Tatum. He moved to Brunswick with his family at the age of six. He attended Glynn Academy high school, graduating in 1957 and received a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University in 1963. After graduation, he was employed by Brunswick Pulp and Paper as a maintenance manager, and later worked at Sterling Wood Products as Plant Manager. He joined Valmet Paper Machinery of Finland in 1988 as the Capital Sales Manager for North and South America. He was an active member of College Place United Methodist Church where he served on the board of trustees. Benny was also the president of the Fellowship Sunday School Class for several years. He also served two terms as the president of the Property Owners Association for Oak Grove Island and active on Two Way's Sport Fishing Club. Benny's passion for traveling in his RV, boating and fishing was only surpassed by his love of socializing with friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy L. Tatum, sons, Keith (Beth) and Craig (Wendy); sister, Barbara (Jeff) Buchwald; grandchildren, Megan Jay (Willson), Taylor, Sam, Ben, Eli, and Asher Tatum. A memorial service will be conducted at College Place United Methodist Church, 3890 Altama Avenue, Brunswick, GA on July 29 at 11:00. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00-11:00. Contributions in memory of Benny may be made to College Place Methodist Church or Hospice of the Golden Isles.
