Betty Gene (Genie) Hutchinson

Betty Gene (NeSmith) Hutchinson, 77, of Brunswick, passed away peacefully Monday, March 4, 2024, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 14 years, the late Ronald Eugene Hutchinson, 72, of Brunswick.

Genie was born April 19, 1946, in Coral Gables, Fla., to Joel C. and Annie L. NeSmith. She lived in Coral Gables with her mother, father, older sisters Martha Lee, JoAnne and younger brother Taylor. Through her teen years and early-20s she graduated from Coral Gables High School and Miami Dade Community College school for nursing. For decades, as a single mother, she worked in the nursing field, tirelessly providing care and assistance to many in need – all while providing unrelenting care and comfort to her two sons, Scott and Jeff Adams.

Later in life, Genie re-married and for years enjoyed traveling to dozens of states around the country with her husband Ronnie, as he moved to different job assignments as a millwright. She enjoyed meeting new friends, reading and was known to be a fantastic cook. After retiring, they settled into a quiet country life at Altamaha River Park, in Brunswick.

A celebration of Genie's life will be held at a later date.

Survivors include her children Scott Taylor Adams of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Jeffery Adams (Laura) of Washington, D.C., and step children - Rhonda Lynn Hudson (Tim) of Hortense, Ronnie 'Bubba' Hutchinson, Jr. (Stephanie) of Brunswick, Shannon Tarvin (Eric) of Denver, Colo., Benji Hutchinson (April) of Brunswick, Chad Hutchinson (Sydney) of Brunswick, Jonathan Hutchinson of Brunswick, Dustin Hutchinson (Brittni) and John Derek Hutchinson, all of Douglas; a sister, Ouida Fry; and a brother, Jack Hutchinson, both of Brunswick.

Surviving grandchildren are Mary Hudson, Elizabeth Hudson, Olivia Boggs, Brittany Hutchinson, Brandon Hutchinson, Victoria Young, Caden Hutchinson, Sabastian Hutchinson, Stunner Hutchinson, Shelby Zalinski, Abbigal Zalinski, Johnathan Zalinski, JJ Hutchinson, Georgia Hutchinson, and Teegan Donahue, along with four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In her final weeks and days on this Earth, care and comfort were provided by the incredible staff at Visiting Angels Southeast Georgia and Hospice of the Golden Isles. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.
