C. Richard, Baechtel, Mechanical Engineer
C. Richard Baechtel was dearly loved by all who knew him, especially his family. He died on
Monday, May 21, 2018. While serving in the Navy, he taught sonar technology to Navy officers
in Monterey, California. A graduate of Grove City College in mechanical engineering, he earned
many patents for the railroad industry while working for Westinghouse Airbrake Company.
Mr. Baechtel worked with machines in the filling and packaging industry for Horix
Manufacturing Systems and for Perry Industries. He faithfully served the communities and
churches in the cities in which they lived. Richard Baechtel was born in Natrona
Heights, Pennsylvania on June 3, 1928 to Francis Mary and Clarence Andrew Baechtel. In
addition to his wife, Bonnie, Mr. Baechtel is survived by his sister Patricia, his children: Susan
Baechtel, Richard Baechtel, Laurie Pitcock, and Rev. Bonnie Lanyi, eight grandchildren, two
great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He showed love and kindness to all even to the
very end of his life. Mr. Baechtel inspired many people by the way he lived his life.
The Funeral will be held at Lord of Life Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 26th at 3:00 pm. A
reception will follow.
