Obituary

Carl William Long, 83, of Brunswick, GA passed away on January 22, 2025. Known to many over the years as "Captain Scooter," he began working as a Commercial Fisherman in his early teens and became a well known Shrimp Boat Captain to many along the Florida East Coast, from Fernandina to Titusville. He also fished off the coast of Mississippi, Alabama and down through the Gulf. His later years were spent fishing near Brunswick, GA, before he retired.

Carl never left his love of the boats and the water behind. He was a longtime member of the North Florida O.R.C.A.S. Model R/C Boat Club. He spent his time building and restoring model boats. He would travel to Jacksonville, FL and run the boats with the club. His favorite times were putting lights on the boats, which brought much joy to the crowd. He had many friends that shared his passion for boating.

Left behind are his girlfriend, Shirley Herrin; brother, James "Jimmy" Long; his daughters, Cynthia Uremovic, Beverly (Bubba) Tripp, Melodie (Todd) Colling and Amyie (Harry) Wood. He has many beloved Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. His friends Mark (Mary) Hanson and Lindsey Parker became part of his family, the most supportive and caring friends to him in his later years.

He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Long; his mother, Matilda Gertrude (Twele) Long; and his sister, Marie Long Dodgens.

Many friends and acquaintances have said they will miss hearing his stories and enjoyed the conversations they would share. He was a kind and loving man who will be missed by all.
