Carol Joanne Hoffine joined the Great Cloud of Witnesses while residing in the skilled nursing wing of her home at Marsh's Edge on St. Simons Island on Saturday, October 2, 2021. She was born March 7, 1934, in Santa Ana, California to the late Howard H. and Beatrice Ethyl (Sparlin) Hoffine. Carol attended George Washington High School in Los Angeles, studied Theater Arts at UCLA, and studied TV/Radio Production at Columbia College in Los Angeles. Carol spent most of her career as a news reporter for Radio and TV in Southern California. She broke into the business as a reporter and station manager for KNJO Radio in Thousand Oaks.
She moved into TV as News Bureau Chief at KCOY-TV in Santa Barbara where she interviewed such notables as Ronald Reagan while he was Governor of California, Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes, and actress Julie Harris and covered the huge Sycamore Canyon wildfire in 1977. She also served as a Staff Announcer at CBS Television and a Reporter for KEYT-TV in Santa
Barbara. During the Reagan Presidency, Carol rubbed elbows with the White House Press Corps and was able to interview the likes of Sam Donaldson, Henry Kissinger, Helen Thomas, and George H. W. Bush.
Carol also worked as a Talent Rep for Christian Artists in Thousand Oaks, California. One of her clients was a young Kathie Lee who had just written "The Quiet Riot" and later became well known as a national TV talk show host with Regis Philbin.
A devoted Christian, Carol studied Theology/Christian Ed/Music at L.I.F.E. Bible College and gave generously to a number of national ministries as well as her beloved Episcopal Church, including her most recent parish, Christ Church, Frederica on St. Simons, which she served in numerous ways including as a lector and a soprano in the Adult Choir.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her much loved adopted Havanese, Bridget. She is survived by her beloved dachshund, Miley, who is being well cared for by her foster family.
A celebration of life service will be held at Christ Church, Frederica on October 27th at 10:00 am with interment in the cemetery to follow. Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
