CARROL HURLEY ULLRICH

DOB: March 3, 1941

Patricia Carrol Hurley was born in Pineville, West Virginia on March 3, 1941. Her parents were Nehemiah (Mar) Hurley, a coal miner, and Goldie Short Hurley, a 16 year old homemaker. She grew up in a coal camp, her family moving from below the tracks to more comfortable company homes for supervisors when her father was made chief electrician.

Upon graduation from Pineville High School, she won a music scholarship to what was then known as Morris Harvey College, later to become University of Charleston. In her career, she worked for the Chesapeake and Patomac Telephone Company, later moving to Washington D.C. where she was the administrator for the Potomac River Advisory Committee. Later she started her own very successful secretarial service. With her daughter Tina Rene, she moved to San Francisco with Karl P. Ullrich, whom she married in 1980. She worked with a probate law firm as a legal secretary. Karl's daughter by a previous marriage Cynthia Leigh became a part of the family along with her daughter Ashley.

In 1987, the family moved to Southern California where Carrol became an executive assistant to a vice-president of Kawasaki Motors Corporation. In 2003, she retired and moved to St. Simons Island, GA. Her daughter Tina and her family, including a granddaughter Ilena, later moved to St. Simons Island. Later, Tina gave her another granddaughter, Bella. Carrol's family was now centered on the east coast. She is survived by her husband Karl, her mother Goldie, 97, her daughter Tina, her husband Eric, and her daughter Cynthia and her husband Skip. Steven her brother and his wife Linda, along with her brother Vernon, who pre-deceased her, gave her six nieces and nephews, and seven great-nephew/nieces. Granddaughter Ilena and husband Jacob have given her two great-grandsons, Tillian a Takoda. Granddaughter Ashley, and her husband Thomas gave her three great-grand children, Ema, James and John. Bella, her youngest granddaughter is a rising senior at Glynn Academy. These, along with a number of friends, will miss her dearly.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 17, 2023 at Christ Church Cemetery, 6329 Frederica Rd, St Simons Island, GA 31522St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, 615 Mallery St, St Simons Island, GA 31522, where she was a member for 20 years.
