Obituary

Catherine Maxson Bright, age 73, was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on August 30, 1944, and died May 14, 2018, in St. Marys, Georgia. Her parents were Dr. William Taylor Maxson and Catherine Barbour Maxson. She attended University High School in Lexington and graduated from Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia. She was a long-time employee of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and an ardent fan of the University of Kentucky basketball team. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed reading, watching movies, and traveling. She was an enlightened free-thinker, one who opposed intolerance and advocated inclusiveness. Her death is mourned by husband Michael, son Taylor, daughter Marion, sister Elizabeth, sister Jessie, and brother Philip, as well as many nephews, nieces, and friends. She asked that there be no funeral or memorial service but simply to have her ashes taken to the Memorial Garden at Bay View, Michigan. She spent every summer of her life there in Michigan and thought nothing so beautiful as the whitecaps raised by the wind crossing over the great lake and into Little Traverse Bay. She was particularly fond of these words and lived her life by them: 'Let us always remember that life is fleeting and we do not have much time to gladden the hearts of those who travel the way with us. So be swift to love and make haste to be kind.' She was a member of the Colonial Dames and a volunteer with Hospice for many years. She was cared for by Hospice nurses and aides in her last illness and would want any memorial gifts sent to Hospice of the Golden Isles, Brunswick, Georgia.
