Obituary

Catherine Watson Glenn, 71, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2017, at her home in Ashantilly, with her family by her side. She was born in Jacksonville, FL, on Jan. 21, 1946. A 1964 graduate of Darien High School, Cathy was voted "Most Intellectual," was a Varsity Cheerleader, and was in Beta Club. She attended Wesleyan College, Macon, GA and Jacksonville Business School, Jacksonville, FL. She and her husband Paul Mallard Glenn were friends from the cradle and were married for 52 years. She put Paul through college at University of Georgia, and then she worked as secretary to the Director of the Sapelo Marine Institute for about five years. She worked as a bookkeeper at Savannah Labs for nearly thirty years. Upon retiring to McIntosh County, she worked for Virginia Bryson, attorney, in Darien for several years and then as a bookkeeper for Cabretta Marine on St. Simons Island. The eldest of the Watson Girls, Cathy was a true lady with Southern charm and gentility, and she was a port of calm in the storm of a large family. She always considered others' feelings first and was gracious to a fault. She had a flair for hospitality, management and organization. She was a peacemaker, full of patience, mercy and compassion. She lived by the motto of "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." Her hobbies included fishing, all kinds of boating, yoga, sewing, homemaking, family history, bargain shopping, traveling in warm climates and spending time with family and friends. Cathy received a trophy for winning a fishing tournament. She had a talent for catching fish and not getting a speck of anything on her clothing. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hunter Atwood Watson and Vivian O'Kelly, her sister Carol Gorby, and her youngest son, Luke Watson Glenn. She is survived by her husband, Paul Glenn; her sisters Virginia Baisden and Margaret Toussaint (Craig Toussaint); her brother Clifford Watson; her children Hunter Watson Glenn (Niki Alford) and Shannon Glenn Smith (Steven Smith); her grandchildren Lindsey Glenn, Logan Glenn, Dalton Smith, Catherine Smith, Noah Glenn, and Holden Glenn; and numerous nieces and nephews. Paul's brothers (Tom, Steve, Jeff and Bill Glenn) considered Cathy as their sister. She will also be missed by Mamoo the cat. She was a cradle Episcopalian, with baptism, confirmation, wedding and now funeral at the same church. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Darien with Father Ted Clarkson officiating. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. in the church Parish Hall. Interment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be made to the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Foundation, PO Box, 5312, Akron, OH 44334 and Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Golden Isles Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.
