Chan Smalling Sutton, 60, of Brunswick, Georgia, passed away on January 26, 2024. Born on September 29, 1963, to the late James Edward Sutton Jr. and Kay Frances Hardy, Chan was a lifelong animal lover and equestrian.

Chan obtained his associate degree from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia, and later went on to obtain his bachelor's degree in animal science with a minor in English from Middle Tennessee State University. He spent time working for Sea Island Stables, Jimmy Glidewell Stables, Spotts Stable, Stones River Farm, Cannon Point, and was most recently employed as Carriage House Manager at the Golden Isles Carraige Company.

Chan dedicated his life to what he was most passionate about: horses. He judged many horse shows, most notably the National Academy Horse Show and the 4-H State Horse Show. He was an active board member and manager of the American Saddlebred Horse Association of Georgia for over two decades. Chan established the Oak Lane Farm in Brunswick in November 1987, where he trained horses and taught lessons throughout the years.

He is survived by his brother, Franklin Neil Sutton; his life-long friend, Mary Hardee; and nephews, Chancellor Dustin Gill, Christian Heath Sutton, Greyson Neil Sutton, and Sterling Gage Sutton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Georgia 4-H Livestock Program or Hospice of the Golden Isles.

A memorial service will be held at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM officiated by Father Tom Purdy. A gathering will be held immediately afterwards at Toucan's Ale House.
