Charles Green Wilcox, 81, of Brunswick died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at his residence. Born in Bogalusa, Louisiana, a prior resident of Glynn County, he returned in 1996 after having retired from the U.S. Army. Mr. Wilcox was the first manager of the former Wanderer Hotel on Jekyll Island. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Chief Warrant Officer, where he was the recipient of a Bronze Star medal, and ARCOM medal with three Oak Leaf Cluster, two Army Occupation medals, two National Defense Service medals, a Meritorious Unit Citation with two Oak Leaf Cluster, a Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal with Sixty Degree Device, a Vietnam Service medal, a Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and three Good Conduct medals. He was in the Security and Intelligence Forces of the Army, having also served in Korea. He was an avid musician and a member of the Haz Benz musical group. He was a passionate gardener and chicken breeder. Mr. Wilcox was also a published author. He was cared for in his final years by his sister, Ethel and niece, Carol Bianchi.He is survived by one son, Ronald Charles Wilcox of Hortense; one daughter, Celia Kathleen Wilcox of Hortense; three sisters, Ethel Bianchi of Brunswick, Pearl Schumacher of Waukesha, WI., Ramona Owens of Wagener, SC.; one brother, Halton Wilcox of Leonardtown, MD; and several nieces and nephews.
