Darwin E. 'Gene' Cunningham, 82, of Brunswick died Wednesday, February 8, 2006 in Augusta, GA. A native of Danville, Ill., Mr. Cunningham had lived in Glynn County since 1983. He was retired from the U.S. Veterans Administration and worked as a manual arts therapist. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brunswick. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate on numerous ships. He also loved his Boston Terrier, Coki. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alwilda Herring Cunningham of Brunswick; a daughter, Sara Luann Groover of Springfield, GA; a son, Randall Lee Cunningham of Cumming, GA; a brother, Franklin Cunningham of Silver Springs, FL; two grandchildren, Charlotte Hall of Aiken, SC and Ashlee Reece of Cumming, GA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his granddaughter, Dana Leigh Beasley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Music Ministry at the First Baptist Church of Brunswick. Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
