November 18, 1962 – December 12, 2023
SSG David Francis Gallagher, Jr. (US Army, ret.), passed away at home with his wife by his side Tuesday, December 12, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
David was born in Denver, Colorado, November 18, 1962, to David Francis, Sr., and Norma Jean Gallagher. Raised on Library Street in McKeesport, PA, he attended McKeesport Area Sr. High School where he was a member of the band, chorus, and NJ ROTC. He joined the US ARMY after high school and served his country for 22 years. He served in the Desert Storm War. Among numerous citations and awards, David was awarded a Bronze Star. He worked forTSA BQK (Brunswick, GA) for several years until his health declined. He was a member of the American Legion Post 9, loved building models, wooden puzzles, and cross stitching.
While they were both serving in the Army in Germany, he met his future wife, Lynette. They were married on November 8, 1985. Together they raised three sons before retiring to Brunswick in 1998.
David was predeceased by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lynette Gallagher; sons, Philip Gallagher (Kristina); David F. Gallagher, Ill (Diana); and Brandon Gallagher (Cristina), all of Brunswick; seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter; siblings, Andrew Gallagher (Teresa) of Baldwyn, MS, Sherri Detman of Etna, PA, Bobby Gallagher (Janice Moss) of McKeesport, and Deanna Gallagher-Naumann of Baldwyn, MS; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A celebration of David's life will begin at 6pm, Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the American Legion Post 9, Hwy 17, Brunswick, GA. Private inurnment of ashes with Full Military Honors will be held at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA.
Remembrances may be made to American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
