Jesus welcomed Delmer William McCall with loving arms on September 4, 2012, as he left Hospice of the Golden Isles. He was born in Wayne County on September 10, 1930 to Myrtle and Otis McCall, Sr.. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Otis McCall, Jr.
Delmer began early singing and playing guitar locally. While serving in the US Army as a lineman and an MP in Japan, he formed a country music band which placed 3rd in the Southeast Asian Theatre. He was recommended for the Grand Ole Opry after an audition.
Shortly afterward, his Christian Music Ministry began which lasted for 58 years. He wrote more than 20 songs. Many of his cherished memories were during his ministry at area nursing homes, singing at churches and events from South Carolina to Florida including Christian Television Ministry (CTM). He enjoyed participating in the Glyndale Baptist Churches Golden Harvest senior group.
Delmer retired from Bestwall Georgia Pacific Gypsum Division after 35 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Sarah M. McCall; his children, Delrita (Danny) McIntyre, Danny (Nancy) McCall, Diane (Jackie) Holton, and Tony McCall. Step- daughters, Tonya (Tim) Prescott, Charlotte (Francisco) Flor; a brother, J. E. (Delores) McCall. 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Past and present members of Community Lighthouse (formerly Beverly Shores) Baptist Church remember his dedication and faithfulness. He tearfully prayed and labored for it to be a neighborhood beacon for Jesus.
A celebration of his life will be held Friday, September 7th at 11 AM at the Community Lighthouse Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Jack Pickren, Reverend Emory Ion Johns, and Reverend Geoffrey Critchley, burial will follow in the Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 8 PM in the chapel of the Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home.
His grandsons will serve as Pallbearers: Danny McIntyre, Jr., Joseph 'Andy' McIntyre, Jeremy McIntyre, Danny 'Buddy' McCall Jr., Robert 'Bobby' St. Dennis, and Shaun Holton.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons and Members of Community Lighthouse Baptist Church, John F. Carr, Eliotte and Nancy Harrell, Gene and Alyne Leggett, Reverend Jesse Deems, and the Hospice of the Golden Isles Family.
Delmer Loved Jesus. He lived to serve Jesus and Others, and we will miss him.
