Donald Wellons (Don) Lee, 86, of Shellman Bluff and formerly of Brunswick, died Tuesday, November 18 at Hospice of the Golden Isles.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Margaret (Peggy) Lloyd Lee of Shellman Bluff. Other survivors are his sons: Jeffrey Wellons Lee and wife Capricia of Pensacola, Fl., and David Wayne Lee of Columbus, Ohio; his daughter: Robin Lee Silvester and husband John of St. Augustine, Fl., and his stepson: Michael Hummel of Columbia Maryland. He is also survived by his three grandchildren: Tia Lee of Lafayette, LA; Donovan Lee of Norfolk, VA., and Matthew Lee Silvester of St. Augustine, FL.
Don was born in 1928 in West Palm Beach, Florida to Hobart Wellons Lee and Eleanor Spiers Lee. He joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17 and was a Marine Aviation Night Fighter in the Korean War. He was an Air Traffic Control Instructor at Glynco Naval Air Base and retired from the Marine Corps in Brunswick in 1968. After retirement he attended the local college and obtained a Marketing degree. He then went to work at Brunswick Pulp and Paper Mill, and retired from there in 1990.
He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 41 years, during which time he was a positive influence in the lives of countless men and women.
He loved his family, working with other alcoholics, volunteering at Hospice of the Golden Isles, and drinking coffee every morning at Clyde's with the local 'boys'. He did not like long obituaries.
A celebration in remembrance of his life will be held Friday, November 21 at 2 PM at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, his friends and family may make a donation in his name to an organization of their choice.
