Doris Johnson Whiddon, 81, a resident of White Oak, died Friday, September 1 at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick. Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday September 5, at the Woodbine United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. William Warnock and Rev. Jack McCollough officiating. Interment will follow in Homeward Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Vernon Johnson, Buddy Copeland, Sidney Copeland, Ronnie Whiddon and Thomas Whiddon. A native of Bainbridge, she had been a resident of Camden County since 1954, having lived in St. Marys until moving to White Oak in 1978. She was a graduate of Young Harris College and Florida State University. She was a schoolteacher, having taught 2 years in Decatur County and 28 years in the Camden County school systems. She was named the "Teacher of the Year" in 1987 for the Camden County School System and was a member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. After her retirement and up until her lengthy illness, she and her husband provided many field trip opportunities to their White Oak "Farm", for the elementary school children in Camden County. She was a lover of music and was a member of the Woodbine United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Lanier Whiddon of White Oak.; 2 children, Brad L. Whiddon of White Oak and Judy L. Whiddon of Brunswick; 3 grandchildren, Thomas L. Whiddon of Tampa, Florida; Karen J. Whiddon of Jacksonville, Florida and Misty L. Frank of San Diego, California and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 at the Woodbine United Methodist Church.
