LeRoy Edward Dennis, Jr. passed away Thursday evening, April 23, 2015, at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Ed was born in Kingstree, South Carolina, on April 21, 1948. He was the son of LeRoy Edward Dennis, Sr. and Margaret Mitchum Dennis. Ed is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Smart Dennis; two daughters, Margaret Dennis Sieber (Matt) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Caroline Dennis Frame (Ryan) of Huntsville, Alabama; two grandchildren, Maylin Vaughn Sieber and Heath Edward Sieber; and one brother, William Littleton Dennis. Ed graduated from Wofford College in 1969 and earned his Masters degree from the University of South Carolina in 1971. Ed and Linda have lived on St. Simons Island for 26 years. Ed was a long-time member of Wesley UMC who will be remembered for his humor and wise council. As an active member of the Agape Sunday School Class, he contributed much wisdom from his knowledge of the Bible. Ed had served as the chairperson of Wesley's Staff Parish Relations Committee and was also an usher. Ed enjoyed golf, football (especially the Georgia Bulldogs), basketball, history, and shopping for gadgets of all types. He loved his friends - friends from Kingstree High School, friends from Wofford, and friends on St. Simons. Most of all, Ed adored his family - Linda and his daughters and grandchildren. He constantly sent to others videos of his grandchildren. He loved his extended family- cousins, in laws, all of them. Enjoying people was always important. Ed always had a witty, intelligent comment for any subject - politicians, the Southern way of life, and the like. Visitation with family will be Monday, April 27, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica on St. Simons Island. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 2:00 PM also at Wesley United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica at 6520 Frederica Rd, Saint Simons Island, GA 31522.
