Obituary

Edward Lee Hamilton passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. He was born on November 23, 1949 in Alma GA and was 76. He was the eldest of seven children born to Jaqueline and Orvid Lee Hamilton of Brunswick GA, and is survived by his son, Chris (Paula) Hamilton, sisters Donna (Freddy) Merritt and Cathy (Joe) Vicent, brothers Charles (Peggy) Hamilton, David Hamilton and Jimmy (Carolyn) Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bobby (Christine) Hamilton and wife Carol.

Ed grew up in Brunswick and graduated from Glynn Academy High School in 1967. Afterward, he went to work for the Georgia State Highway and spent many a long day in the swamp helping to lay out Hwy 99. He switched careers in 1969 to work for Georgia Power, only to be drafted into the Army in 1970, and sent to Viet Nam. He was stationed out of Ft. Lewis Washington and was honorably discharged from his duties as a Seargent Armor Recon Specialist in 1971. Ed resumed his career with Georgia Power and worked forty plus years as a substation Construction Foreman, living most of his life on the road, working all areas of Georgia and around Atlanta. He returned to Brunswick permanently after retirement where he spent quality time with his son and family, visiting friends, going on trips and gardening.

Ed loved being in nature, and the magical beauty of just sitting on his dock watching the river go by at sunset, always enjoying everything life had to offer. He was known for his quiet warmth, patience and wit. He loved nothing better than to find the latest “gadget” and share it with you! He was a gentle giant and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
