EDWIN SAMUEL FUTORAN

June 24, 1948 – December, 17, 2022

Edwin Samuel "Ned" Futoran, age 74, of Fairfax, VA, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Brightview Fair Oaks in Fairfax, VA. Born in Alexandria, VA, to Josef and Helen Futoran, Ned was the second sibling of six boys and three girls. He knew love, warmth, humor, and a great family. He was one of the most kind, generous, goofy, and loving people you would ever meet.

Ned graduated from Shelton College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and earned a Master's and Doctorate of Divinity from Slidell Baptist Seminary. He worked for the Federal Government and retired from the Department of Homeland Security, moving to Fairfax County in 2016 from St. Louis, MO.

He touched many lives as he shared his love of the Lord, music, and generous spirit with others. He was a life-long learner and was interested in literature, history, baseball, travel, and the study of the Scriptures. Most importantly, Ned loved God and sought to serve and honor Him in many ways. He has been a church elder, Sunday School teacher, music director, sign language interpreter, and, most recently, he was a member of the choir of McLean Presbyterian Church.

Ned met the love of his life, Margaret "Margie" Kuczmarski in May of 1978 at the U.S. Navy Finance Center in Cleveland, OH. They married on May 21, 1983, and together they were the parents of two wonderful children, Tim and Kelly. They were happily married for 23 years until Margie's passing in 2006.

Ned was also preceded in death by his loving wife of eight years Elizabeth Buswell Futoran, his parents, and his brother David. He is survived by his brothers Robert Futoran (Gail) of Huntsville, AL, John Futoran (Alice) of Ventura, CA, Donald Futoran (Judy) of St. Louis, MO, Philip Futoran (Liisa) of Palm Harbor, FL; sisters Rose Ann Futoran of Cocoa Beach, FL, Lorna Estep, and Dorothy May, both of Dayton Ohio; his son Timothy Futoran (Anna) of Arlington, VA, and daughter Kelly Jenkins (Jake) of Fairfax, VA; and four grandchildren Norah, Daniel, Abigail, and Katie.

He had the tremendous gift to live with his beloved granddaughter, Norah, for six years, where they enjoyed countless tea parties, and Norah tried everything in her power to teach her Opa to be a gentleman. Unfortunately, he never could quite learn to not put his teacup on his head or how to properly drink tea, but she still loved him dearly.

As his health declined, he was particularly blessed by his cherished caregivers and friends, Lucia Kear, Ledjane Makarowski, and Yusufu Bah. They all spent years caring for him generously, including throughout the pandemic. They were a tremendous source of comfort and companionship for Ned, Kelly, Jake, and Norah. In his last year, he lived at Brightview Fair Oaks, where he charmed every staff member and resident he met, gaining countless friends and adopted family. They cared selflessly for Ned until the end. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, Opa, brother, and friend.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at McLean Presbyterian Church, 1020 Balls Hill Rd, McLean, VA 2210.

Interment will be held privately at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens in St. Simons Island, GA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be directed to the McLean Presbyterian Church Deacon's Fund.
