Edwin Thomas Minchew, age 81 went to his heavenly home on Monday, June 22, 2026 after an extended illness of Alzheimer’s Disease. He was residing at Sears Coastal Nursing home for the past year and a half.
Born and raised in Brunswick Georgia to the late Elige Jacob “Jake” Minchew and Wilma Mary Edgy Minchew. He was preceded in death by his brother Herbert Minchew (Lois) and his sister Jean Waldrip Dunne (Mike).
Edwin is survived by his two daughters, Cathy Baker (Bill) of Monticello, GA and Kym Stewart (Ricky) of Brunswick, GA. Three grandsons, Brandon Stewart of Brunswick, GA, Colby Stewart-Barnard (Brandon) of Garden City, GA, and Tyler Stewart of Brunswick, GA. Two brothers, Taft Minchew (Betty) of Castle Hayne, NC and Carroll Minchew (Becky) of Brunswick, GA. His ex-wife Dianne Jones (Alan) of Brunswick, GA. Along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and many cousins.
He attended Glynn Academy High School. After high school he worked at Edgy-Wooten Lumber Company where he later became a co-owner. He later started Minchew Renovations working until he became ill.
He loved helping and caring for others. He would pick up the ladies in the Senior Women’s Sunday School class at Pine Ridge Baptist Church and took them all to lunch each month. His Aunt Leoma Wilson was a member of this class and he took great joy in spending time with her. He will even be laid to rest next to her. He was always honored to help out any family or friend in their time of need. He was an active member of Coastal Baptist Church for many years.
His service will be held in the chapel of Brunswick Memorial Park on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with the visitation one hour prior at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Jimmy Crandall will officiate. He will be laid to rest at Chapel Park Cemetery on Cate Road.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles or The Alzheimer’s Association.
