Obituary

Mr. Eleuterio (Tito) Ramirez was born of 7 February 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Mr. Hosea and Mrs. Carmen Ramirez. He went home to live, eternally, with his Lord Jesus on 10 October 2012. Upon graduation from High School in 1954, Tito enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his Nation in a variety of assignments throughout the world. From June 1965 to October 1969, Tito served four consecutive tours of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. During his final tour, he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and filled the billet of a Commissioned Officer as Platoon Commander, 2nd Platoon, Hotel Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Division. Tito returned to the United States in October 1969 and was honorable discharged after fifteen distinguished years of service in The Corps. His military decorations and personal awards include: the Marine Corps Good Conduct Ribbon with one Gold Star; the Marine Corps Expeditionary Ribbon; the Armed Forces Expeditionary Ribbon; the National Defense Ribbon; the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon; the Unit Citation Ribbon; the Drill Instructor Ribbon; the Vietnam Service Ribbon; the Combat Action Ribbon; the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Ribbon; the Expert Rifleman Badge with two Bars; and the Expert Pistol Badge with two Bars. Following his military service, Tito embarked on a career with the Federal Prison System, serving as a Corrections Officer in Federal Correctional Institutes in Petersburg, VA, Butner, NC, and in the United States Penitentiaries, Terra Haute, IN, and Atlanta, GA, where he was assigned as Special Investigator to investigate crimes within the institution. Following his promotion to Captain, Tito served in the Metropolitan Correctional Center, Miami, FL, the Federal Correctional Institute, Big Springs, TX, and the Southeast Regional Office, Atlanta, GA, where he was assigned as the Assistant Correctional Administrator. Later, Tito transferred to the Federal Correctional Institute, Jesup, GA. While serving there he was selected to become a Bureau of Prisons instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Brunswick, GA. After serving with the Bureau of Prisons for seventeen years, Tito retired having served his Nation with pride and distinction for thirty-two years. Known and respected as a "Marine's Marine," Tito was a Life Member of the Marine Corps League and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the United States Navy League, and the Golden Isles Veterans Council. In the Marine Corps League, he served as Sergeant-At-Arms, Junior Vice Commandant, Commandant, and Chairman of the Veterans Council. Additionally, Tito served his community as a Poll Manager for the Glynn County Board of Elections. Tito is survived by his beloved wife, Judie, daughters, Leila Watson, Renee Woodcock (Stacy), sister, Carmen Johnson, brother, Joe Ramirez, niece, Diane Turner (Mike), sisters-in-law, Juanita Dale, Wilda Purkel, Evelyn Millwood (George), Margaret Eddings (Wayne), and a host of friends. Let us celebrate the life of this good man and remember him before God, with thanksgiving and praise! Amen!
