Elford Dean Breland, 91, fondly known as Big Ed of Blythe Island, died Saturday at his residence. He was a native of Walterborough, S.C. and had lived on Blythe Island since 1982. He was retired from Southern Bell after 42 years of service and moved here from Cartersville, Ga after his retirement. He had a passion for fishing, and never met a stranger, was a very outgoing person. He was a member of Blythe Island Baptist Church where he was on the board of Trustees and a Deacon. He was also a member of the Southern Bell Pioneers. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army WW II. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Wylie Brook Breland of Blythe Island, 3 sons, Elford Dean Breland Jr. of Brunswick, Richard Brook Breland of Blythe Island, and Charles Leslie Breland of Brooklyn NY. A sister, Senie Murphy of Edgemoor, S.C. 7 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren also survive. Funeral services Thursday at 10:30 in the chapel at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home, entombment following in Brunswick Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pastor Tim Brown to officiate.
