Obituary

Elizabeth “Betsy” Horn, 67, went home to the Lord July 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side.

Betsy was born in Asheville, North Carolina to Burton and Nettie “Jean” Stanford on May 24, 1959. She was a proud Southerner, and the youngest of 4 children.

Betsy had many adventures in life, but was a longtime resident of Lincoln, Nebraska. Betsy settled in Nebraska after marrying her faithful husband of 36 years, Kevin Horn. Kevin and Betsy married on September 16, 1989, and welcomed Philip and Caroline, in 1990 and 1993. She was a dedicated mother who took nothing less than the greatest pride in her children.

Kevin and Betsy were passionate and active members of New Covenant Community church for over 30 years, and Betsy’s unwavering faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She was a woman of remarkable depth, wisdom, compassion, and grace whose love for her family, friends, and everyone she met left a lasting impression. She touched countless lives through her kindness, strength, and generous spirit, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Betsy graduated with an undergraduate degree from Western Carolina in North Carolina, she received a master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and a master’s degree from Grace University in Omaha Nebraska.

Betsy worked at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, Christian Challenge at the University of Nebraska, New Covenant Community Church in Lincoln Nebraska, and was a homemaker and an LMIHP Clinical Counselor.

Betsy was preceded in death by her father Louis Burton Stanford and her mother Nettie Jean Stanford. She is survived by her sister Nancy Williamson and her husband Richard, her sister Martha Stanford and her brother Burt Stanford and his wife Kathy.

A small gathering will be held in St. Simons Island, Georgia at Wesley Church on Frederica, Thursday, July 16th at 4 pm. A memorial service celebrating Betsy’s life will also be held in Lincoln, Nebraska at a later date. Details will be shared with family and friends once arrangements have been finalized.
