Elizabeth "Totsy" Smith Ratliff passed from this earthly realm into her heavenly reward in the wee hours of the morning Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Hospice of the Golden Isles.
Mrs. Ratliff lived the majority of her life in her beloved Golden Isles and was a 1959 graduate of Glynn Academy. In her early professional life, she was employed by the American Cancer Society. She volunteered at the voting precincts before her appointment to the position of Director of the Glynn County Board of Elections. She was a champion for fair and unbiased elections. While she enjoyed her work outside of the home, her most cherished positions in life were daughter, wife, mother, and ultimately, Nana.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Smith of Brunswick, GA, and her father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Ratliff of Waycross, GA.
Mrs. Ratliff is survived by her husband of 61 years, H.J. "Joe" Ratliff, her daughter, Marilyn E. Ratliff, her son, H.G. "Hank" Ratliff, grandsons, Aaron C. Ratliff (Samantha), Evan C. Ratliff, and her "bonus daughter", Donna B. Pinter (David). An only child, she considered her in-laws, Ruby R. White, Jacqueline R. Carver, T.J. Ratliff (Linda Faye), Lynn R. Taylor, Kaye R. Johnson (Jimmy), and Denver J. Ratliff (Diane) to be her very own brothers and sisters. Also left to cherish her memory are many cousins, nieces, nephews, and so very many dear friends near and far as she made friends wherever she went.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery and Funeral Home, 4407 US Highway 17, Brunswick, GA 31525. It was her wish for everyone to wear something colorful, not black, to celebrate her home-going. While she loved fresh flowers, we the family request in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, GA or Magnolia Manor on St. Simons Island, GA to help these fabulous organizations who helped us take care of her in her last days.
