Elizabeth Jean 'Bette' Snow passed away, Friday, September 23, 2016. She was born in Lynn, Ma on March 18, 1925 to Frank and Genevieve Sullivan. She grew up Foxborough, Ma and graduated from Foxborough, High School in 1943. She went on to study art at Boston University and became a World War II Rosie the Riveter working as a welder at the Foxborough Company making gauges for airplanes and ships for the duration of the war. In 1946, after his return from the Pacific, she married her high school sweetheart, Edward 'Ed' Snow. They would be married for 66 years until his death in April, 2012.
Together they would spend the next 22 years traveling the globe for his navy career. Duty stations would include Qonset Point, Rhode Island, Norfolk, Virginia, Glynco, Georgia, Puerto Rico and London, England. Bette kept busy with volunteer work and her artistic pursuits during Ed's frequent absences. She also worked as a manager with the Navy Exchange system in both Rhode Island and Virginia. They both fell in love with the Golden Isles when Ed was stationed at Glynco naval air station, and when he retired from the navy in 1968 decided to make their home here. After several years as a stay at home mom, Bette returned to work as a kindergarten para professional at the Albany Street and Arco kindergartens when daughter Leslie started school. She loved introducing children to art and reading. Later, she became an integral part of her husband's business, Glynn Package store, Inc. Bette was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved to entertain friends and neighbors. She was also a talented artist who loved to paint her favorite nature scenes of the golden isles and Cape Cod. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brunswick, Georgia and the Glynn Art Association.
Bette is survived by her daughter and son in law, Leslie and Andy Hicks of St. Simons Island. She is also survived by her three grandchildren who were the delight of her retirement years, Shelby Andrew, Frances and Genevieve. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ed and an infant grandson, Will.
Graveside services with the Rev. Chris Noyes of the First Presbyterian church officiating will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens on St. Simons Island. The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
