Elizabeth (Betty) Steinmetz
Our most Merciful Lord loaned us Betty 90 years ago and on July 12, 2018, He took her back. I borrowed this most appropriate lead from the obit of my wife Sandee and her good friend, Maria Zagami. We rejoice that Betty has been reunited with family members, and many friends including Sandee.
Betty Steinmetz was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 25, 1927 and continued to live there with her husband of 58 years, Art Steinmetz, until they retired and moved to Jekyll Island, GA in 1987. While living in Cincinnati Betty worked as a secretary at Proctor & Gamble for 35 years. Betty spent the last eight years of her life at Southeast Georgia Health System Senior Care Center. She suffered from dementia, a debilitating, slow developing, life ending disease that is devastating to senior citizens, their families and friends. Like Alzheimer's this continues to be a closet disease that needs attention of our lawmakers so funding will be made available to find the cure.
Betty is survived by her husband, Art Steinmetz of Jekyll Island, who recently moved to Thrive Assisted Living on Saint Simons Island, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor and Alphonse Muething, and her Brother David Muething.
Our personal thanks to the entire staff at SGHS Senior Care Center for their dedication to every patient under their care. Special thanks goes to the nurses, CNA's, and cleaning staff who work nonstop caring for patients and their environment under extremely difficult circumstances. No service has been planned at this time, however your support for finding a cure for Dementia and Alzheimer's is always appreciated.
