Obituary

Ellen M. Robb, 73, of St. Simons Island, passed away Oct. 18, 2025.

She was born in Geneva, Illinois, at Fox River Hospital, to Sarah Maxwell and David Allyn Robb Sr. The family relocated to Watkinsville when she was a toddler, where they ran Saralyn Farms, raising horses, cattle and poultry, which instilled in Ellen an undying love of animals.

An accomplished equestrian, Ellen toured the nation showing in both English and Western competitions. In 1975, she campaigned and co-showed an American Quarter Horse to top honors in "Western Riding" and broke current records for the most points earned in a year. It was a huge and important national success. She never lost her love and affection for her equestrian friends.

Throughout her life she often fostered and adopted countless pets, especially her beloved canine companions. For many years, she also worked as a veterinary technician.

She was a graduate of Oconee County High School and Truett-McConnell University.

Ellen settled on St. Simons Island in 1980, and began a busy and fulfilling life on the treasured coastal enclave. Her effusive manner opened many doors, both socially and professionally. Her business life was spent 20 years at The Cloister, on Sea Island, eventually rising to a management position.

After leaving The Cloister, she was the proprietor of J Mac's Restaurant for 10 years. Following that, she worked in management for the Halyards Restaurant Group.

Ellen loved a party, and some say she participated in a plethora of shenanigans throughout her time on Earth. The early days at The Nut Hut and Beachview houses are fabled in themselves. Our lips are sealed, but the stories of the living legend that was Ellen will be told time and again to the delight of all who knew and loved her. She knew all the scuttle about the Golden Isles region, especially St. Simons Island. She could bend your ear while sharing a cocktail like no one before or since. Rich were the tales of lore she would impart to a willing listener.

If friendships define your life, Ellen was rich beyond measure, as her loving generous and selfless heart welcomed all to her open arms.

Deep, eternal bonds of friends were quickly forged when she moved to St. Simons, where she became the titular head of a group of vagabond pals suffering from Peter Pan Syndrome, affectionately known as the Vacation Children – a loving group living in the beauty and splendor of the semi-tropical isle who refused to grow up, along with like-minded foundlings from other places. These lifelong friends lived and loved together through thick and thin, through endless travels and events, while facing the joys and challenges life brought to the table. Their constant support throughout Ellen's health challenges were loyal and admirable.

The family would like to thank Georgette Rempfer, Sherry Taylor, Grace Malmberg MacMillan, Josie Kennedy and Gail Baker for their ongoing love and sacrifice on Ellen's behalf.

Predeceased by her parents and her husband, Mark Medlin; she is survived by her brother, Allyn David Robb Jr.; sister-in-law, Judy A. Watterson; along with cousins, Sarah Maxwell Brown, Elizabeth Maxwell and Andrew Maxwell; and her chosen extended family of Vacation Children, Georgette Rempfer, Sherry Taylor, Kay Miller, Kenneth Brown, Ann Eason Singer, Diann Meeks, Pat Reilly, Penny Stewart, David Herndon, Evan Landis, Houston Vissage, Josie Kennedy, Shann Champion, Leigh Ann Varnedoe, Paula Price, Sherrill Sumner, Mac Holland, Susan Gillespie, Wanda Boshears, Jeinnie Avera, Don Leggett, Grace Malmberg MacMillan, Kelly Oosterhoudt, Don Hyers, Kevin Connell, Terry Sagedy and Fleming Hunt (preceded her), and not to forget, her lifelong childhood friends, Suzanne White and Brenda Manley.
