Obituary

Emmett L. Bonnett, a resident of Brunswick, GA, passed away on June 6, 2022, at Golden Isles Hospice with his loving wife

by his side. Emmett was born July 30, 1926, to Nathan Dan and Agnes Davis Bonnett in Waycross, GA. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

A WWII veteran, Emmett proudly served his country in the US Navy as a radioman on the USS Barnett in the Pacific. Upon his return from the war, he married his love, Gilda Jean Snellgrove and they settled in Newberry, South Carolina, where he was manager of Western Union. In 1953, he was transferred to Brunswick, GA, and retired from Western Union after years of service. After his retirement, Emmett went on to work for Altama Delta Shoe Corporation as their IT manager and retired in that capacity.

Gilda S. Bonnett passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024, atThe St. Mary's Senior Care Center in St. Mary's, GA. Gilda was born on October 12, 1927, in Valdosta, GA, to Rev. and Mrs. Willis G. Snellgrove. She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Rev. H. G. Snellgrove. Affectionately known as, Mrs. "B", she was a piano teacher in Glynn County for over forty years and was dearly loved by all of her students. She also served as organist, pianist, choir director and teacher at numerous churches during her lifetime. One of her most cherished memories was being a USO volunteer/entertainer during WWII.

Emmett and Gilda are survived by their three daughters and sons-in-law: Bette and Danny Helms, Ruthie and Mike Garner, and Kathy and Bob Merck. They are also survived by seven grandchildren and their spouses: Cyndi and Chris Harrell, Ben and Kim Helms, Allison and David Hand, Stephen and Caitlyn Garner, Brad and Katie Arbo, Taylor and Anish Kattukaran, and Jesse and Emily Merck. They are also survived by fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Emmett and Gilda were faithful members of the First Church of the Nazarene for fifty years and members of Calvary Baptist Church for twenty years. A dual memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, Brunswick, GA, on

August 17, 2024, at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Gideons Ministry are requested.
