Ethan William Johnson, age 22, of Clermont, Florida, passed away on
Thursday, September 14, 2017. Ethan was born in Lee County (Ft. Myers),
Florida and died tragically in Duval County, Florida as a result of a vehicle
accident. Ethan is survived by his parents, Christopher George Johnson and
Alicia Shanley Johnson; his siblings, Joey, Autumn, Emma, Alyssa, Aaron,
Andrea, Amelia, Alex, and Anna Johnson, all of Clermont, Florida; his
grandparents, Terry and Carole Edge of Smith's Station, Alabama, Spencer
and Karen Johnson of Griffin, Georgia; great grandmother, Eleanor
Thompson, of Jackson, Georgia; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and
friends.
Ethan was full of life and a joy to be around. He was born on June 24, 1995.
The early years of his life were difficult as he and his sister were placed in
foster care. Although he endured great heartache, his spirit of hope could
not be broken. During his time under the loving watchful care of Florida
Baptist Children's Homes, he continued to inspire others with his
determination and resiliency, but he longed for a forever family to call his
own. That longing became a reality when God answered his prayer, and he
and his sister were adopted into the Johnson family on May 20, 2013.
As a Johnson, Ethan continued to grow and flourish. He was passionate
about telling his story and spoke regularly about the vital role of foster
parents and the importance of adoption. He had a great love for music and
a beautiful singing voice. He regularly used his talent to inspire others to
answer the call of God to orphan care. This willingness to use his voice to
advocate for children in foster care created the opportunity for Ethan to
travel around the state of Florida and share his talent and story with
thousands of people.
After graduating from Lake County Virtual School, Ethan became a student
at the Word of Life Bible Institute in Hudson, Florida. While at WOLBI, Ethan
continued to use his talent to encourage others as a member of the vocal
ensemble, Rekindled. Upon completion of the program at Word of Life,
Ethan moved to Jacksonville, Florida to become a student at Trinity Baptist
College. To assist him in properly dealing with some of the struggles and
deep-seated issues of his past, God directed Ethan to become a part of the
intense discipleship program of the Trinity Rescue Mission and FreedomFarm. It was during this time that God truly did a miraculous healing work in
Ethan's life, as he surrendered to God's plan, came to the end of himself,
and trusted fully in Christ as His Lord and Savior.
Ethan truly had the heart of a servant. He loved to cook and clean for
others, give sacrificially to help and encourage others, and use his talents
and efforts to inspire and uplift others. He was a hard worker and full of
determination. He was a gentle, kind man that always put others ahead of
himself. He brought great joy to his parents, siblings, family and all those
who called him friend. His impact on the lives of others was great, and his
memory will live on through those whose lives he so richly touched. His
desire was that his life would bring God glory and that others would see him
as a child of God, a beneficiary of God's grace and mercy. He wanted
others to find the same healing and salvation that he found, healing and
salvation that only comes from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
A Memorial Service to celebrate and honor Ethan's life will be held at Liberty
Baptist Church, 11043 True Life Way, Clermont, Florida, 34711, on Tuesday,
