F. Royce Hobbs, Jr., 91, died Saturday, August 15, 2026.

A long-time resident of St. Simons Island, Mr. Hobbs was born in Plains GA and grew up in Lumpkin GA. He was the first Boy Scout in Stewart County, GA to become an Eagle Scout. He was a life-long Georgia Tech Fan and played basketball for Mercer University.

After graduating from Mercer University in 1957, where he was a brother of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, he began his career in Macon, Ga. He was a real estate broker and developer in Macon and later, on his beloved St. Simons Island.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Rosario Hobbs of St. Simons Island; his daughter Laurie Leigh Irby of Macon; his son Lec (Jack Austin) Hobbs of Glenville, NC; His grandchildren, Kayleigh Collier, Michael (Keeley) Irby, and Janin Irby, two great grandchildren, and his brother, Danny (Patty) Hobbs of Pine Mountain, GA.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Simons Land Trust. The family will conduct a private memorial.
