Born December 31, 1912 in Sprague, West Virginia, Mr. Smith had been a resident of Brunswick since 1969. Prior to moving to Georgia, Mr. Smith worked several years in West Virginia in the coal mines while studying to become an ordained Church of God minister. He served several churches in West Virginia and previously preached with Oral Roberts. While living in Richwood, West Virginia, he was a supervisor at a manufacturing facility making rubberized rescue boats for the Coast Guard. He and his wife retired to Brunswick in 1969 to be near their daughters. In 1997, he served as Assistant Pastor to New Bread of Life Church in Brunswick under Reverend A.J. Lane. He worked for a number of years at Clyde's Discount Music, restoring and repairing musical instruments, which was his hobby. He was known locally as the Bible Magic Man and performed bible-oriented magic shows for numerous churches and organizations. Prior to her death, his wife helped him with the performances.
