Obituary

Frances Loraine Novak, 86, died Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center, after a short illness. Frances was born on October 20, 1931, in the Plant City, Florida area, to Raymond and Eilene Harris. She was the fourth of seven children. Frances grew up on a large farm in central Florida and had many adventures on the farm and the Alafia River with her brothers and sisters. Frances was a cheerleader in high school and loved to dance. She excelled academically and won numerous awards during her high school career. Later, she met and married the love of her life, her husband, Louis Michael Novak who preceded her in death by 8 months. They shared their lives together for almost 67 years. Together they raised three children, Julia Novak Smith (Richard), Frances Novak-Branch, and Louis Wayne Novak (Sandy). She enjoyed her five grandchildren, Jason Smith (Jessica), Adrien Kiff (Paul), Arien Phillips (Allen), Matthew Novak, and Alyse Novak. Frances was also blessed with four great grandchildren, Madison Phillips, Skylar Smith, Maclaine Kiff, and Avery Smith. Frances and her husband enjoyed traveling in many states and several countries. They enjoyed spending time on their boat either fishing or just cruising the Florida coastline, rivers, and lakes. Frances was an excellent seamstress and made many mother and daughter outfits for her family. She crocheted clothing items and blankets. She loved dolls and had an interesting collection that she bought on her travels or made herself. Frances enjoyed gardening: vegetables and especially flowers. Roses were her favorite. She and her husband had a beautiful rose garden at their Florida home. Frances was an avid fan of the Florida Gators and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football teams and looked forward to each season. Frances also worked as an administrative assistant using her book keeping and typing skills for the International Brotherhood of Boiler Makers for many years.
