Homer Franklin Glenn, Jr., 83, of Crescent died Sunday at Southeast Georgia Health Systems--Brunswick Campus. Born in Dothan, AL on January 7, 1923, he graduated from Robert E. Lee Highschool in Jacksonville, FL where he enjoyed boxing and gymnastics. He was a businessman, living most of his life on Baisden's Bluff in Crescent, GA. He retired from the U.S Post Office. Lieutenant Glenn was a veteran bombardier with the Eighth Army Air Force, having made over 30 flights over enemy territory during WWII. He was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross with Clusters, awarded to airmen for 'meritorious achievement while participating in sustained operational activities against the enemy.' He also held the Air Medal Three Oak Leaf Clusters for Combat Missions. Mr. Glenn enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being on the rivers and in the woods--a passion which he instilled in his five sons. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gertrude Mallard 'Pat' Glenn; sister, Doris Brown, Fran Sanchez and Sally Evans; five sons, Paul Glenn (Cathy), Tom Glenn (Teri), Steve Glenn (Mary), Jeff Glenn (Minet) and Bill Glenn. He was known as 'Papa' to his 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Chichi Speicher and his brothers, Joe and Ed Glenn. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Hunter Glenn, Shannon Smith, Luke Glenn, Frank Glenn, Jr., Charlie Glenn, Ryan Glenn, Zac Glenn, Steve Glenn, Savanna Glenn, Linsey Glenn, Logan Glenn, Dalton Smith, Noah Glenn, Thomas Glenn, Joe Glenn, Charlie Glenn and Tatum Glenn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Memorial Gardens Sponsorship at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum and mailed to HF Glenn Memorial, P.O. Box 899, Darien, GA 31305. A tree will be planted with a plaque honoring Mr. Glenn's service during WWII.
