Garry Neil Dutra, 61, of St. Mary's passed away July 21, 2022, at Southeast Georgia Health Systems in Brunswick.
Born in Walnut Creek, CA, Garry was the son of John Joseph and Anneka Walton Dutra. He attended Alhambra High School in Martinez, CA, where he was very active in sports and drama and graduated with the class of 1979. He grew up on a working ranch in California, now part of the John Muir Land Trust, alongside his siblings and cousins. He was a baker with Albertson's Grocery Stores until his retirement in 2015 and was a resident of Georgia for the past 7 years.
A very positive person who fit in wherever he went, Garry loved jokes and making people laugh. His goal was to leave everyone he met with a smile…or a laugh. He will be remembered for his spot-on impersonation of and physical resemblance to John Belushi. He enjoyed birds, nature, music (especially the Blues Brothers), and arcade games. He was an active member of Point Peter Baptist Church and loved his church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dyann Michelle Bond Dutra; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Chuck Atkins of St. Mary's; son, Keith Dutra of St. Mary's; grandchildren, Ireland Atkins, Nevaeh Atkins, Jasmyne Atkins, and Clayton Dutra; siblings, Steven Dutra, Peggy Kamberg, David Dutra, Lauren Zolezzi, and Stacy Dutra; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will begin at 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Point Peter Baptist Church in St. Mary's, GA, with Pastor Doug Gibson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Point Peter Baptist Church, 2245 Douglas Dr, St Marys, GA 31558.
Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is honored to assist the Dutra family.
