Obituary

George Hudson Ashmore, 71, of Martinez, GA passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at his residence. A native of Brunswick, Mr. Ashmore had lived in the area until 1952 and returned to St. Simons Island in 1997 where he lived until 2002. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech and had received his Master of Physics degree from UCLA. He had worked for the Martin Corp. in Florida where he designed a part of the rocket that entered into space. He later worked for Hughes Aircraft Corp. and finally, the International Telephone & Telegraph Corp. (ITT) from which he retired in 1991 as a Corporate Vice President. He was an avid sailor and was also a licensed pilot and flight instructor. He traveled extensively for business and pleasure throughout his lifetime having visited Germany, Japan, Kenya, Tanzania, Syria, Egypt, France, Austria and England. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy (Lowe) Ashmore, also a native a Brunswick; three daughters: Suzanne Ashmore, Stacy Cole and Joanne Rodriquez; two sons, Lee Ashmore and James Ashmore; a brother, Arthur Ashmore and seven grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer''s Association. Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
