Gerald Wayne Herndon

Gerald Wayne Herndon Sr., lovingly known as “Runaround” of Brunswick, Georgia, passed away on February 9, 2026, at the age of 75.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father, George Dobby Herndon of Surrency, Georgia, and his mother, Carrie Mae Herndon of Waverly, Georgia. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Gene Herndon, Emory Herndon, Mark Herndon, and Alan Herndon.

He was a loving, devoted husband of 50 years to his wife, Connie. Wayne was a proud and loving father to his son, Gerry Herndon, and his daughter, Jodie Goodyear (Chad Goodyear). He was a cherished grandfather to grandson, Callen Goodyear and granddaughter, Janalee Goodyear. He also leaves behind his siblings Linda Herndon Owen, Sammy Herndon, Wyndell Herndon, Joyce Herndon Tran, Warren Herndon, Don Herndon, and Darryl Herndon along with several beloved nieces and nephews.

Wayne was a hardworking and skilled mason. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and always made sure his work looked its very best.

Above all, he was a provider who deeply loved his family. He had a passion for gardening and took joy in his fruit trees and sharing the harvest.

Wayne loved the outdoors such as hunting, fishing, etc.

If you drove down Pennick Road, through Parkers, or around Altamaha River Park, chances are you saw “Runaround” riding by—waving, stopping to check on someone, looking in on a cabin, or simply saying hello. He loved people, he loved humor, and he truly loved life. His warm smile and friendly wave will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Golden Isles Church of God.

Wayne’s legacy of hard work, generosity, and love for family and community will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
