Obituary

Gerard Hegstrom, 87, of Brunswick, died December 17, 2018. Donation of the body was made to Medical College of Georgia. Jerry was a champion of the underdog, and a gentleman to all. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an Attorney, FBI Agent, Teacher, Businessman, Politician, Project Manager, Zoo Director, and a leader in his church and community wherever he was. He was creative and handy with a knack for building things both literally and figuratively. He was honest like his hero, Abraham Lincoln, and he lived his life with true integrity. He brought forth cheer, bad puns and great stories to any and all. He loved his wife and family with complete devotion. Jerry was born in Kenmare, North Dakota March 30, 1931 and was raised predominantly in Braham, Minnesota where he graduated from Braham High School in 1949. He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Law in 1959. He received a Bush Fellowship and an appointment as a Harvard Fellow at the Harvard Institute of Politics in 1969. He received innumerable awards and recognitions for contributions to various political and civic organizations throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his son, Cameron Hegstrom, and his parents Russell and Verlie (Mickelson) Hegstrom. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, June Hegstrom, and his daughter, Tamara (Chris) Daughtry. Survivors also include his precious granddaughter, Pearl Daughtry, and his siblings, Judy Hegstrom, Joy (Jack) Tierney, Jack Hegstrom, and Jim (Donna) Hegstrom. Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home handled arrangments. https://www.brunswickmemorialpark.com/ A Memorial Service will be held on February 3, 2019, at 12:00 PM the Unitarian Universalists of Coastal Georgia.
