Obituary

On the evening of Friday, March 26th Gordon Edward Brooks passed quietly into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 89. Gordon was the son of the late Luther and Ruth Brooks of Mondamin, Iowa. He was the father of Jim Wright (Carolyn) and Morris Wright (Ann) of Jacksonville, Florida, Gordon II "Tinker" Brooks (Wanda) of Bloomingdale, Georgia, and Michael (Gennene) Brooks of St. Simons. Gordon was a graduate of Mondamin High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. While stationed in Mayport, FL he met his wife, Dorothy Jean Faulk and together they ventured to Maryland, Atlanta, Missouri and eventually Brunswick to be near her family. He worked for Sears & Roebuck, managed Gibson-McDonald Furniture in Brunswick and then spent several more years in semi-retirement with Sweat's Furniture. He spent his later years traveling with his late wife Dorothy "Boots" Norman and their beloved Goliath. He was active in the Kiwanis and later in the Gideons serving in various capacities. He was faithful in teaching the word of God through the years, whether at Central Baptist Church, Pine Haven, or in prison ministry. He later became a member of Community Church St. Simons and was so excited when he discovered they would be opening a second campus in the Glynn Place Mall. He was able to attend prayer vigils before their opening but was never able to attend a service there. He deeply missed attending his community group and church this past year during convalescing and Covid 19. He loved the Lord and sought His inspiration up until it was no longer necessary. He leaves behind his sister Reva Flint of Granby, Missouri as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. A Celebration of his life will be held at 5 pm on Saturday, April 24th at Community Church-Brunswick Campus. Visitation with the family will follow immediately afterwards in the Atrium. Expressions of Condolences will be received at 1000 Mallory St. Ext., # 23D, St. Simons Island, or 516 Cobblestone Circle, Bloomingdale, GA 31302. The family would like to thank all Gordon's caregivers at Southeast Georgia Health Systems and especially Senior Care and the many prayer warriors. He is free! Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home/Golden Isles Cremation Center is honored to assist the Brooks family.
