Haven Paxton, 99, a longtime resident of Brunswick, departed this life Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
Born September 4, 1925, in Webster County, MS, he was the youngest and last surviving child of the late William and Homa Castle Paxton. Following graduation from Eupora High School, he enlisted the Navy in 1943, was trained in communications and assigned to the destroyer USS Francis M. Robinson. He was aboard the ship for three convoys to Europe during World War II. Mr. Paxton's naval career spanned three decades and three war zones including Korea and Vietnam.
After retirement in 1969, he and his beloved wife, Mary Emma, moved to Brunswick where he began a 25-year career with the Sea Island Company at the Cloister Hotel.
Haven was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a fine man with a gentle nature. It can be said of him, "He lived a good and full life." He ran a great race and set a great example for his family.
He leaves behind a daughter, Pamela; grandchildren, Julie Mae and Joseph; great-granddaughter, Ellie; a niece, Sallie Kay; and a host of dear friends.
The funeral service with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Boyette from Calvary Baptist Church in Brunswick officiating.
A visitation for the family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. preceding the service.
