Helen Inez Murner Sanders, 83, was a resident of St. Simons Island
and Brunswick for the past 56 years. She peacefully reached her greatest
victory and joined her Lord on Sunday, February tenth of 2013
where her late husband of sixty-one years promised he would be awaiting
her glorious arrival to walk through the gates of Heaven together.
Helen was born on July 9, 1929 in Macon, Georgia to Arnold Hugh
Murner and Ollie Mae Turner Murner. She was one of five siblings
whom she loved dearly. As a young girl she was Baptized in Mabel's Creek in
Mableton, Georgia and thereafter God was her constant comfort throughout
her life. She went on to graduate from high school and marry. It was
through her occupation as a seamstress where she passed on her love of
Christ by stitching a heartfelt prayer and blessing into each garment she
altered.
She counted her greatest achievement as being a mom to many and
most especially her own children of whom she was so very proud. Her
resilience and steadfast strength was admirable and she leaves an
everlasting legacy for those whom were blessed to have known her.
She was preceded by her beloved husband of sixty-one years, Thomas
"Red" Sanders; her granddaughter Rachel Anne Sanders; her parents Arnold
and Ollie Mae Murner; sisters Margaret Butler, Mary Frances and brother Johnnie Murner.
She is survived by her five children and spouses, Tommy and Terry
Sanders, Bobby and Nikki Sanders, Donny and Jennifer Sanders, Teresa
Sanders Baxter, and Arthur and Jodi Sanders; five grandchildren, Ryan
Sanders, Samantha (Jimmy) Crum, Courtney Sanders, Grace Sanders and Jacob
Sanders ; one great-granddaughter, Dru Marin Crum; and her eldest sister
Dorothy Mickler.
Pastor Rob Grotheer will be the officiant of the funeral service to be
held on Friday, February 15 at 3:00, followed by a private, intimate grave
side service for immediate family only. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Crum,
Danny Denmark, Ted Elrod, Dave Nelson, Paul Salter and Albert "Albo" Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers are James Alexander, Peggy Bradley, Charlene Westberry, Darnetta Joseph, Travis Wright, the nurses and staff of Four North SEGRMC, Dr. Erick Bournigal, Dr. James Greene, Dr. Timothy Jamieson, Dr. Philip Saleeby and Dr. Sindhu Thota.
