Helen M. Smith, 94, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, July 17, 2021, with her daughter by her side.
Mrs. Smith was born February 25, 1928, in LaGrange, GA, to John and Annie DeBerry McDaniel. She attended LaGrange College and graduated from West Georgia Radiologic Technical College, where she received her Certification in the field of Radiology. During her career as an x-ray technician, she traveled extensively to various medical centers and clinics in Georgia.
Her lifelong dream was to return to Brunswick and the Golden Isles, where she and her husband lived in the early years of their marriage. She and her daughter realized that dream 18 years ago when they relocated permanently to Brunswick. She attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Cate Road.
She enjoyed sewing, painting, photography, and traveling with her daughter. She was an animal lover who constantly was providing homes for rescued dogs and cats. She was also an avid baseball fan having traveled to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and supporting the Braves.
Preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Hugh Smith, she is survived by one daughter, Charlotte Smith Brookshire, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Monday, July 19, 2021, at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith will be interred in Brunswick Memorial Park in a private service. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at a later date and will be announced by the family.
