James A. Barkley, 72, of Brunswick died Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at the Brunswick hospital of the Southeast Georgia Health Systems. He was a native of Shreveport, La. He served his country for 23 years in the U.S. Air Force, the first 4 years served in the U.S. Navy and received many awards and salutations. He worked for the Brunswick hospital, Pontiac Dealerships, Glynn County, Sears, Jekyll Island Authority, Brantley County Board of Education, Fort Walton Beach Florida Public Works as manager and Sea Island. He was owner of The Feed and Bag, a feed and seed store, in Waynesville. He was the winning coach of the Fort Walton Beach Little Major League Champs in 1972. He loved his family and his country. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Edith Jacobs Barkley of Brunswick; two sons, Craig Barkley of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Barry Barkley of Atkinson; one brother, Gordon Barkley of Shreveport La.; three sisters, Janice Preston of Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada, Doris Graves of Shreveport and Vivian Tracy of Dallas Texas; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, April 13, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment with full military honors by the U. S. Air Force will be held at Brunswick Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Rev. Phil Harrington officiated. Visitation was held Thursday night 6 to 8 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles. Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home was charge of the arrangements.
