James Robert "Jim" Knight, 89, passed away peacefully under hospice care at Hospice of the Golden Isles on May 20, 2026.
Jim was born on July 18, 1936, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to Robert and Lola Knight. He graduated from Savannah High School in 1954 and, following graduation, enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. After his military service, he attended Georgia Southern College and graduated in 1961.
On June 5, 1960, he married the love of his life, Linda D. Lamb. Together they shared nearly 66 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and community.
Jim lived in Savannah, Georgia, for 35 years before moving to McIntosh County in 1986. Following his retirement in 1998, he became a full-time resident of the area he had grown to love. Throughout his career, he worked in accounting and management for various hospitals in Savannah, Georgia, and Jacksonville, Florida. He later retired from Stone Container Corporation in Savannah after 24 years of dedicated service.
A man of deep faith, Jim was a longtime member of Shellman Bluff Baptist Church in Townsend, Georgia. He was also a proud Shriner with Alee Temple in Savannah and enjoyed fellowship through several hunting clubs over the years.
Jim had a lifelong love of the outdoors and found great joy in golfing, fishing, hunting, and boating with his family. Whether on the water, in the woods, or spending time with loved ones, he treasured every opportunity to create lasting memories with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lola Knight; his sisters, Jeanette Knight, Jessie Lee Willoughby, Marie Tippins, Lavern Hall, and Lora Grace Knight; and his brothers, William Knight and Virgil Knight.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Linda D. Knight; his children, Kim Thaw (Pat Davis), James "Jimmy" Knight Jr., and Brad Knight (Heidi); six grandchildren, Masen Knight (Alicia), Bradley Knight (Amanda), Dylan Thaw (Julie), Tanner Knight, Ryan Thaw (Madeline), and Parker Knight (MaKenna); eight great-grandchildren, Rhett, Levi, Miles, Harlow, Elliot, Elora, Bristol, and Silas; his sister, Patsy Maltos; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A memorial service celebrating Jim's life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Shellman Bluff Baptist Church. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Brad Butler will officiate.
Jim will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, faithful service to his country, dedication to his church, and the kindness and integrity that guided his life. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and in the family he cherished so deeply.
Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the Knight family.
