Obituary

My father James Phillips passed away on March 27, 2019, at Wayne Memorial Hospital with his family. He was 91 years old and loved by his family. He was an amazing man with a life that was lived very well. He was the survivor and a hero of WWII and the Korean War. He loved and served his country with honors. He was the cornerstone of our family, always with a firm and loving hand. His family and Country were the reason for his purpose in life. He was an example to each of us. He lived the way the Savior expected him to with Love and respect for Heavenly Father; Always kind to everyone without judgment or hatred toward anyone. His generosity and caring for others always exceeded his wallet. He really cared about people. He spent his life trying to teach all of us. He was a wonderful husband. I watched my parents, and they had a marriage that everyone dreams of having. They were married when my mother was fifteen and father were seventeen. He wrote her poems and would bring her gifts for no reason at all. They trusted, respected, and tenderly loved each other throughout their lives on earth and I know they are continuing in Heaven now. James William Phillips was born on September 29, 1927, in Marlow, Oklahoma to Irving and Mary (Harvel) Phillips. He was the eldest of five boys. He is the loving husband of Rada Savage Phillips, who passed on April 13, 2002. He's the father of one daughter, Patricia Phillips. He's the grandfather of Lara Curtis a great grandfather to Jamie and Donavon Phillips, Jimmy and Raven Curtis, Star, Coral Rose, Asria, and Thomas Canada. And great-great-grandfather of Myra Owens Phillips, Anthea Curtiss, and Kyrlancelo Cardinal. My father was a member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints. Joining the Darien Branch in 2018. He was a very active member in the Masonic Lodge for a great deal of his life and achieved the 32nd Degree. As he aged, he became less active. He was a member of the 'American Legion' and 'The Veterans of Foreign Wars'. A funeral service will be held at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home at 11:00 am, the family will receive friends and family an hour prior. Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
