Jansie Marie Bennett Oglesby, of Brunswick, GA, passed away on February 13, 2024 in Erfoud, Morocco while traveling with her husband and a group of friends.

Jan was born to James Cameron Bennett, Sr. and Jessie Lee Brannen Bennett (both of Jesup, GA) on February 24, 1949 in Jesup. She was married to John Norman Oglesby, of Brunswick, GA for 57 years.

She graduated from Wayne County High School, Class of 1967, and attended Georgia State University. She was owner of Gulliver's Travel in Germantown, TN, along with her partner of 40 years, Todd Bagatelas, of Germantown. She held the professional designation of Certified Travel Agent and was an accomplished and respected businesswoman who received numerous awards for her work in the travel industry. Among other pursuits, she was especially passionate about her work with the Brunswick Women's Club.

She was also an accomplished artist, designing jewelry, and winning several awards for her creations of nativity scenes from natural elements like cedar wood and oyster shells. Her friends sometimes referred to her as the "Oyster Lady." She was also an avid collector of art and artifacts from her travels, which decorated her home. She immensely enjoyed showing them to visitors, many of whom referred to her home as "The Museum."

Although Jan came from humble beginnings, on a farm in South Georgia, she belonged to the world. She traveled to 156 countries, many more than once, and to all 7 continents. Many who traveled with her have said that she changed their lives. All who knew her loved her. She was bubbly, fun, personable, thoughtful, loving, and giving. Above all, she loved God and her family, including her very large extended family. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone, and often a small gift as a token of friendship or to celebrate a special occasion.

She is preceded in death by: her parents; her son, John Norman Oglesby, Jr.; sister, Joan Bennett Williams; and brother, James Cameron Bennett, Jr. She is survived by: her husband John; her daughter, Julia Oglesby Cotter and her husband Mark Cotter, both of Brunswick; her grandson, Joshua Mark Cotter; her granddaughter, Jessica Marie Cotter; her great granddaughter, Sophia Marie Wilson (Jessica); brothers, John Bennett and Jack Bennett; and sisters, Julia Oglesby, Jane Durrance, and Jerrie Glawe.

A celebration of life will be held on March 9, 2024 at Glyndale Baptist Church in Brunswick, GA at 10:00am. Visitation will start at 9:00am.
