IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jay Perry
Martin
November 25, 1939 – January 22, 2026
Jay Perry Martin, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, GA.
Born on November 25, 1939, in Nashville, Tennessee, Jay lived a life rooted in hard work, laughter, and genuine connection.
He eventually made his home on St. Simons Island, a place he deeply loved and gave back to generously.
Jay was married to the love of his life, Teddie Martin, with whom he shared a life full of stories, travel, and unwavering partnership. He was preceded in death by his sister, Matilda Masson, and his beloved son, William Wilkerson Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Teddie Martin; his son, Boyd Martin; his daughter, Elizabeth Lane, (Mike Lane) and his daughter-in-law, Kris Johansen-Martin. Jay was a proud grandfather to Lacey Cross (Mike), Zach Martin (Anastasiia), Eva Kate and Wilkes Martin, and a delighted great-grandfather to Caleb, Colt, and Charlie Cross, who brought him endless joy.
Jay worked for BellSouth in Atlanta for 26 years and later moved to the Golden Isles to start up The Island Directory. He owned and operated it for 34 years. An avid Atlanta Braves fan, Jay rarely missed a game and carried that same enthusiasm into his love of travel, always eager for the next adventure. He had a wicked sense of humor, a quick wit, and a rare gift for conversation. Jay truly never met a stranger, and those who met him often felt like friends by the end of the first conversation. He gave freely of his time, kindness, and generosity to the community he loved.
Above all, Jay loved his community and gave to it freely, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and connection that will be deeply missed.
Jay's life was a reminder that kindness matters, laughter heals, and a generous spirit leaves a lasting mark.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Sparrows Nest at Faithworks at 2911 Altama Avenue, Brunswick, Georgia 31520.
"The Lord blessed him with colorful times, millions of miles, a great wife, wonderful children and grandchildren, a beautiful part of the ocean world to live in, a salty sense of humor, an eye for art and literature, and lots of years to do it in. Not bad—not bad at all"
