On Tuesday, March 2nd, 2021, Jill Marilyn Covell passed away at the age of 86. Jill was the daughter of Grant and Mary C. Becraft of Utica, NY, and grew up in Lansingburgh (North Troy), NY. She was the mother of her devoted son, Gary Covell, and her daughter, Lori Covell, who was lost to cancer in 2010. She leaves behind her sisters, Judith Staples-Dorton of Columbia, MD, and Jane Cox of Albany, NY as well as many nieces and nephews. Jill was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School and loved working with children always using her guitar playing to encourage them. Her work history includes being employed by Behr Manning Corp., in Troy, NY, as secretary to the Assistant Principal of Brunswick High School and at the Brunswick Hospital physical therapy department, and at ABC Home Health Care in Brunswick, GA. She was a camp counselor at Camp Allehigh (in her late 70's), a talented creator of poetry, posters, and decorations for both work and church events. She loved playing volleyball, softball, and tennis and for a short time played on a fast-pitch women's softball team when she lived outside Washington DC. Playing guitar and tambourine and singing and writing poetry gave her much joy. After moving to St. Simon's Island, GA, Jill enjoyed the camaraderie of the many friends she made being a member of the Island Players Theater Group and singing in her church choir at the Fort Frederica Presbyterian Church. She will be remembered as a best friend to her housemate, Reba Stone, now of Golden City, Missouri, and a warm and loving friend to all who knew her here on St. Simon's Island. A memorial service will be held at Fort Frederica Presbyterian Church on April 17th at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you donate to your favorite charity.
