The world became a bit darker, but heaven became brighter, with the passing of John Oren Hummel, on November 11, 2022 at the age of 79. John was a native of the Golden Isles, the youngest of three children born to Gordon and Abidee Hummel. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters Anne Lee and Brownie Pifer. He was a proud 1961 graduate of Glynn Academy. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marines Corps and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. After his stint with the Marine Corps, John worked in the finance industry for many years. Later in life, he and his wife Robyn, were house parents with the Georgia Baptist Children's Home, in Baxley, sharing love and support to children in need. He also dedicated his time to mentor and counsel expecting parents at Skylark. John loved golfing, fishing, and playing cards with his friends and family. He loved to cook for others and sure could tell a story! He loved to make others laugh. John was blessed with a family both chosen for him, and with one he chose. He is survived by his four children including sons, Michael (Fulton), Matthew (Teresa), and Jesse and his daughter Renee' Easterling (and his beloved dog Izzie). John was blessed with three grandsons, Ashton, Grant, and Roman, several nieces and nephews, and other extended family. John's passing, while sad, meant a reunion with the love and light of his life Robyn, who preceded him some three years ago. The family and friends will be eternally grateful to the staff and volunteers of the Hospice of the Golden Isles and the Senior Care Center of Brunswick for their help and support during John's illness. The family will have a private memorial service to share stories, laugh, and remember his incredible life.
