Obituary

John Joseph Mistisshen went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 19, 2023. He passed peacefully at home with his family by his side under the care of Hospice of Golden Isles.

Born November 22, 1935, in Norwegian Township, Pennsylvania, he was a resident of Brunswick since 1971. He served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1958. As a wonderful husband, dad, grandfather (Poppy), and father-in-law, his family came first. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, roller skating, coaching youth basketball, and volunteering within the community. John served with Cub Scout Pack 208 (Committee Member), Exchange Club of Brunswick (Board of Directors), American Red Cross Glynn County Chapter (Board of Directors), Knights of Columbus Council 1939 (Officer), St. Francis Xavier School Board (Chairman), St. Francis Xavier Church (Board of Directors and Eucharistic Minister). He worked for Dixie-O'Brien for 32 years until his retirement in 1992. He also worked many years as a valet at Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus and Golf Cart Superintendent at Brunswick Country Club, where he was a longtime member.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Janice M. Mistisshen; son, David Mistisshen; his parents, Michael and Loretta Misstishin; brother, Edward F. Misstishin.

He was survived by his children, Michael Mistisshen (Lisa Atwood), Steve Mistisshen (Kimberly), Peter Mistisshen, John Mistisshen II (Donna), and Catherine Heath (Rich); and 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He will be loved and missed by all.

Memorial Services will begin at 2pm, Friday, December 22, 2023, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with Committal and Military Honors to follow at Chapel Park Cemetery at 3:15pm.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of the Golden Isles or the American Legion, Auxiliary Unit 9.
